HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS
8 Weeks to a New You! Weight Loss and Detoxification Program
Created by Naturopathic Physician Dr. Kathrine Tavakoli
Designed to be the last weight loss program you’ll ever need.
The Healthy Transformation Weight Loss Program was designed to stimulate your metabolism to burn unhealthy fat while giving your body important nutrition for overall health—helping you to look and feel better.
If you've ever tried to lose weight (and who hasn't), you've got to be mindful of whose advice you take. Your friends challenge you to a 7 day juice fast they read about online. Your colleague says you need to cut out carbs. Your gym buddy knows the secret is to stop eating after 7 p.m. Your sister swears she’ll be in swimsuit shape by March if she only eats once a day.
But do any of these tips really work? To help you shed those extra pounds—and keep them off—without starving yourself, ditching your social life, or eating only once at 2:47 pm, we have created a more personalized healthy weight loss program that will hopefully teach you about real, wholesome and delicious foods that you can add to your daily diet. The meal plans are varied and they all have valuable nutritive values, which will work at the cellular level to get things moving in the right direction.
The point of this program is to start you off on a healthy journey. It will offer easy and maintainable weight loss with the help of daily meal plans, natural supplements, acupuncture, B12 injections and IV vitamin therapy.
Duration: 8 Weeks
Consists of Naturopathic visits involving:
Body composition analysis and tracking (BIA) - Myers IV vitamin therapy - B12 Injections - Acupuncture treatments
Nutritional counselling - Supplements for detoxification and support - 8 Weeks of Menu Plans, including Recipes
How does our weight loss program work?
Some programs may result in weight loss at the expense of healthy lean tissue, so the ratio of unhealthy body fat may actually increase as weight is lost. The food plan for this program is clinically designed to restrict high glycemic carbohydrates and unhealthy fats, enhance protein intake, and provide you with a wide range of foods that are rich in healthful phytonutrients—to stimulate fat loss, maintain muscle, curb cravings and caloric intake, and promote overall health. The program also includes simple exercise and targeted nutritional supplements.
Protein supports lean body mass and helps you feel fuller longer. Certain carbohydrates—such as breads, rice, pasta, potatoes, and sweet foods—are known as high glycemic foods that typically contain higher levels of simple sugars that digest more quickly. This means that when you eat them, your blood sugar levels rise higher than optimal, calling on the hormone insulin to help utilize the sugars in your cells. Unfortunately, high levels of insulin encourage you to store fat instead of burning it. High glycemic foods can also increase food cravings, especially for sweeter foods that are higher in calories. Both consequences are counterproductive when you are attempting to eat right for optimal health and weight. Conversely, when you limit the amount of dietary carbohydrates that the body uses for energy, it then turns to its second choice for fuel: stored fats.
Stimulating fat loss and maintaining muscle helps you achieve a healthier body composition (ratio of fat-to-lean tissue), which is associated with greater overall wellness and healthy functioning. That's why it's important to keep your carbohydrate intake low. It's vital to carefully measure allotted veggies and fruit. Paying close attention to your carbs will help you to achieve your weight loss goal.
Body Composition Analysis and Tracking through Bioelectical Impedence Analysis (BIA)
The staggering North American obesity rate is 33% of all adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Given this trend, your body composition is vitally important. Research has shown that body composition is directly related to health. A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. On the other hand, excess fat in relation to lean body mass—or altered body composition—can put you at risk for chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
BIA assesses body composition using electrical tissue conductivity, in order to provide:
Bioimpedance Measurements. A printout of the your resistance and reactance. BIA gets this information through a direct measurement of the body’s impedance (resistance to the flow of alternating current).
Mass Distribution. Mass consists of lean body mass (or fat-free mass) and fat mass. Lean body mass is further broken down into key components—body cell mass and extracellular mass. Body cell mass is the total cellular mass of living cells—in other words, metabolically active body tissue. Extracellular mass is the body fluid and tissue found outside the cell.
Water Compartments. Total body water has two components—intracellular and extracellular water. Intracellular water is fluid within the cell. Healthy cells maintain their integrity and hold fluids. Extracellular water is fluid outside the cell. An increase in extracellular water may signal a disturbance in the cellular membrane—and a risk for a variety of chronic diseases.
Dr Tavakoli uses the BIA to monitor your progress and guide you in the program.
