About Orthotics

Foot care is one of the fastest-growing, yet most neglected, areas of healthcare today. The incidence of foot problems increases with age, making this issue timely and important to baby boomers and especially those who suffer from diabetes. As well, the popularity of high heels makes this an interesting topic for women as they suffer from four times as many foot problems as men.

Orthotics are custom-made shoe inserts designed to support and correct improper movement of your feet. When you have correct foot biomechanics there is stress taken off the feet, ankles, knees, hips and low back. Our Orthotics are custom made specifically for your feet and to fit your particular needs.

Our Chiropractic Doctors create your custom orthotics via plaster casting. An Orthotics cast is a physical model that accurately captures the anatomy and contours of the plantar aspect of the foot while it is in a non-weight bearing, semi-weight- bearing, or full-weight-bearing position. This three-dimensional model is submitted to the Footmaxx orthotics lab  in order to fabricate a custom-made orthotic for you. Once the lab receives your plastar cast, it takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks for processing depending on the time of year.

Are Orthotics Covered by Extended Health?

Most extended health care plans will provide coverage for customized orthotics. Most insurers recognize the plaster casting technique only. We do recommend that you look into your Extended Health Plan before scheduling an appointment, as many require a referral or other specific information to accompany your claim.

We will provide you with a receipt of payment, a letter explaining the custom orthotic process and product information, and a prescription based on your assessment. This will detail the chiropractic doctor's findings and your specific need for customized orthotics to submit to your insurer if applicable.

Please note that most insurers do not allow direct billing for the orthotic product itself, and this will need to be paid privately. Any appointment fees related to the orthotic booking are directly billable to your extended health care plan. Please ask us for more information relating to your specific extended health care plan!
