The Top 5 Questions Around Cosmetic Injections

Has the idea of cosmetic injections caught your attention? As we age, we lose hydration, elasticity, collagen and fat in our face and skin. Our Naturopathic Physicians offer cosmetic injections to help you look and feel your best.

If you’re new to this type of treatment, we have five of the top questions you might be wondering about before your appointment.

Who’s Behind The Needle?

The success of a treatment is greatly dependent on who is doing it. Think of it this way: if you got a great haircut, would you praise the stylist or the scissors?

Skill and knowledge are why all our physicians are trained in administering Botox and filler.

What Are Your Expectations?

Rather than bringing in a photo of someone else as your beauty inspiration, bring in a photo of yourself where you feel like your best self. This gives you a more realistic point of reference and also helps our physicians know how to enhance your best features.

What Product Is Being Used?

At Performance Integrated Health, our physicians use Botox, Dysport and Hydraulic Acid dermal fillers. Botox and Dysport are neuromodulator injections that temporarily changes the nerve impulses of targeted muscles, resulting in the reduction or elimination of contraction-induced wrinkles. They work by blocking nerve impulses of the targeted muscles to temporarily immobilize muscle movements that cause expressive wrinkles.

The most commonly targeted areas? Horizontal lines across the forehead and perpendicular lines between the brows, crow’s feet, squint lines, lines around the neck, and natural eyebrow lifts.

Dermal fillers are meant to restore volume and create contour and shape to the face, neck and jaw-line for a more youthful appearance. The hyaluronic acid base in these fillers contains lidocaine, which actually makes the treatment more comfortable for patients.

Common areas we treat are lips, smile lines (nasolabial folds), marionettes, jawline, chin, under eyes (tear troughs) and nose.

What Should You Do Before And After the Treatment?

In order to maximize the benefits of your treatment, and for your overall safety, here are some things to consider before you come in:

  • Don’t consume alcohol 24 hours before

  • Discontinue Retin-A products two days before

  • Let your physician know if you have a history of cold sores

  • Have a good breakfast and be hydrated

  • Don’t come in if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Make sure to schedule your appointment two weeks in advance of any special occasions that you’re wanting your results for, like weddings or vacations, as it can take around four to seven days for results to appear.

To keep your injections feeling their best, and doing the job they’re supposed to, here’s what to expect after a treatment:

  • Don’t manipulate the area for three hours after

  • Don’t receive any facial or laser treatments for at least 10 days after

  • Smile! Doing this, and frowning, can actually help the product find its way to the muscle after treatment. Do this for at least an hour after your treatment

  • Take a break and don’t perform any strenuous activities for six hours after in order to keep the product in the injected area

How Long Will Results Last?

The length of results depends on the product used. Botox results can be anywhere from three to four months, while our dermal fillers can last up to 12 months.
